Hey Everyone,

Now that the holiday season is just about over, we hope that you are looking towards the new year with a smile, thinking about all the possibilities that lay ahead in the year to come.

Below is another question and answer segment of our blog, thanks to a recent email inquiry received.

Don't forget to check out our web site's gallery section, for images and updates from past client's retreats to some of the most recent projects we have been apart of @ www.exclusivetents.com/gallery.htm

"Dear Exclusive Tents"

I have been interested in purchasing a few of your tents for a while now. We are planning to build a tented eco friendly island paradise located off the coast of Costa Rica. I would love some more information on your top deigns. However more importantly I would really like to know the easiest and most cost effective way to furnish the inside of the tents? We really wish to obtain a completely authentic feel that combines the overall island theme of the resort with the inside to each of the tented dwellings. We want everything ranging from the overall landscape of the property, to laying in one of the king sized beds under the canvas to be a part of the total experience for our clients. Please pass along any suggestions that you may have for myself, to how this may best be accomplished. Thank you.

"Dear Customer"

Thank you for your inquiry, and I trust that all is well on your end.
The living space within your exclusive tent and the design of the unit are just as important as the surrounding environment. For most of our client's interior design needs we do suggest to check out Barefoot Interior, which is our sister company and offers a large range of custom furniture. This is not always the best fit and in those cases we really like the idea of our clients sourcing local unique furniture from local artisans. They normally use local materials with local themes which really helps blend the environment, culture and essence of the location into the interior of the tent. Remember the interior of the tent should enhance your surrounding environment, not seclude you from it! :)

Happy Monday!

We hope that you are looking forward to spending some time with family and friends for the holidays.

There are many different ways that past clients have very effectively used our tents. One question that we would like for you to ponder would simply be…

How would YOU use an Exclusive Tent?

Whether you wish to use your tent as a guest house on your property, or are planning on creating a luxury retreat, here are a few tips to keep in mind when designing your tent’s site.

Should the property/tent site have very little assets, one must consider how to create some of the natural assets through landscaping, and consider bringing in certain natural materials such as rocks, trees, ponds and screens to name a few. Sandat Glamping used bamboo screens between tents to create the privacy but also planted up a lot of vegetation on either side of the bamboo so that once it has matured, they plan on removing the bamboo, leaving a living natural separation between their tents.

In essence, one has to vision what one wants to create. Be there natural assets on the land, or not to achieve an objective, and always bearing in mind what you or your clients would like to enjoy, and make the stay in the tent more of an experience, than just a habitation.

Cheers,

Tips for Tents:

We hope that you are all looking forward to a nice relaxing weekend, especially with the holiday season quickly closing in upon us.

This portion of the blog is designated for some of our current clients, as well as potential clients who wish to know more about our tents and how to properly maintain them, ensuring the overall longevity of your eco friendly dueling.

Here are a few general maintenance tips for our tents. Our tents design is based upon tension. So, for the first few months after the tents have been set up it will have a (settling) phase. In which you will need to re-tension the tents once in awhile as need until the tents have stopped settling. After that the tents will still need to be re-tensioned, but normally only once every 2-3 months. Re-tensioning only takes about 15-20 min.
All of our tents also come treated with an anti rot / anti mildew compound that may need to be reapplied annually to tents set up in any tropical / coastal conditions. This compound is easily applied by spraying it on the tents. We are able to provide this additional compound for you.

Just some helpful tips to keep your Exclusive Tents performing and looking great for years to come.

Happy Friday,

Exclusive Tents

Happy Friday!!

Thinking about establishing your own eco friendly resort? Or setting up an Exclusive Tent to be used as a place for friends and family to stay in when they visit?
Here are a few tips from the expert to help you get started when choosing the best spot on your property, or in choosing the perfect piece of land for your project.

Many clients may already have a property, and others may be seeking to purchase such a property. No matter the situation one will be looking for a suitable location to place the tent/s. Be the location on the ocean or inland one is always going to look for the finest position/s on the property to place the tents. Primarily one needs to do an inventory of all the natural assets on the property, (some properties may not have any or only few assets), such as rocks, trees, hill's, stream's, gully's, ponds, and views etc. to ascertain how to best utilize or integrate these assets into positioning the tent/s. One will also need to look for shade. If available, this will make the living space cooler and will also partially protect the tent from the climate. Also determine the points of the compass on the property to place the tent/s facing the best direction based on the specific location and climate. Wind is also a big factor when positioning the tent/s. it is desirable that they are positioned in a way or place that affords them the best protection from wind – that being said, it is not always possible to do this if the parcel of land has no assets to protect the tents. In this case one would have to consider creative landscaping to achieve this goal. This is also necessary for creating privacy on a property too small to have space to create the privacy needed. Should the property have very little assets, one must consider how to create some of the natural assets through landscaping, and bring in certain natural materials such as rocks, trees, ponds and screens to name a few. Sandat Glamping used bamboo screens between tents to create the privacy but also planted up a lot of vegetation on either side of the bamboo so that once it has matured, they plan on removing the bamboo, leaving a living natural separation between their tents.

It is best to draw lines, or lay out string to gain perspective on the overall tent size. If the land is undulating, or on a slope, run lines to gain perspective on the various elevation levels one may be dealing with. In essence, one has to vision what one wants to create. Be there natural assets on the land, or not to achieve an objective, and always bearing in mind what you or your clients would like to enjoy, and make the stay in the tent more of an experience, than just a habitation.

I hope that this helped highlight that its not the tents alone, but the total experience including the surrounding environment that make living under canvas an unforgettable adventure.

Dear Exclusive Tents,

I have been interested in some of your tents for a resort that we are planning on creating for a while now, and I would really like to know more about any and all foundation recommendations that you may have for us toconsider when preparing our land for such an establishment.

Dear Customer,

Thank you for your valued inquiry. Building a resort from the ground up can seem a bit overwhelming at times with all of the options and decisions that need to in place for a resort to properly come together. Here at Exclusive Tents we are more than happy to provide suggestions based upon our own and past clients experiences to make the entire process seem painless.
As for a proper foundation to our tents this is a huge factor to consider when choosing to establish a tented retreat. Each one of our designs do need to be secured to a solid base except for The Budget Serengeti Tent. For the inside tent flooring we do have a few different options we can suggest.

Preferably our tents require a wooden deck for them to be built on. A concrete slab or flagstone will also suffice. We do offer a pvc groudsheet, but strongly suggest going with a wooden decking for a few reasons. The main reason we suggest a wooden decking/platform over the pvc groundsheet is because it gets very scruffy and wears through with time and is not easy to replace. So the longevity of the wooden decking is normally recommended. A concrete slab or flagstone will also suffice.

The deck component can be the easiest or most contentious, as everyone has their own ideas and a creative side. Also some folks may bring in an architect into the mix, who will be able to make things more interesting, and at times more costly. Be reminded that in many instances the deck or platform supporting the tent may turn out more costly than the tent itself. The platform can also be made of concrete, a mix of stone, brick, and mortar, but at the end of the day, one would like to create a base that is rigid and strong enough to support the tent. We like to suggest that one tries to avoid rectangles and squares, however, this is not always possible due to budget constraints.

Happy Friday!!

For this weeks link love were taking you back to a resort that we were a part of, which was established a few years back and was one of the most detailed and complex layouts for a glamping resort still to this day. A one of a kind resort doesn't even begging to describe the unique features and overall layout for this retreat. Now for a behind the scenes look into one of the most eco and water friendly resorts in the world that which is The 4 Rivers Eco Lodge located in Cambodia.

The 4 Rivers Floating Lodge was completed in 2009, and is made up of 12 Kingfisher Tents used for lodging, 1 Fish Eagle Tent as a reception/dining area, and also includes a Bateleur Tent used as a library. All of the tents are built entirely on custom decking which float soothingly on top the waters of the The Tatai River. The combination of both the tents and the decking completely enable you to truly be consumed by the tranquility of the river as well as the seemingly endless rain forest.

With in the past few years The 4 Rivers Floating Lodge has lived up to its name as a one of a kind resort, and made its way into many articles and even was Included in a segment on The Getaway's Travel Channel out of Australia.

Happy Friday!

We hope that you all are having a great week. Recently we have a high profile client of ours who has been working profusely with the set up of one of The Mambrrr Tents and one of The Bateleur Tent's soon to be built on there property. It has been a very long process, yet most of the ground work, decking, electrical work, and a good portion of the frame work are complete at this point. More pictures and updates to come.

Dear Exclusive Tents,

I am really interested in some of your safari style designs such as The Serengeti Tents. I am however a little unsure what the major difference's are between The Serengeti Tent's and The Budget Serengeti Tent's if any? Would you please help clarify.

Dear Customer,

Thank you for your valued inquiry. I would be more than happy to explain the major differences between the Serengeti tent design and our Budget Serengeti tent option. Although they are virtually identical in design and size, there are a few things that separate the two.

The main difference between the Budget Serengeti tents, and the 4,5,6 Leg Serengeti Tent are as follows:

1) The Budget Serengeti tents are unable to be customized. Unlike our other designs which allows you to choose colors, and window and door placements, the Budget Serengeti comes only in olive green canvas body, green screened windows, and set door and window placements. (For point.

2) The Budget Serengeti Tents are the only design we offer that do not need to be set onto a platform/decking, and is the only design that comes standard with a stitched in PVC floor.

3) The Budget option comes only with a canvas fly sheet. Where as the 4,5,6 Leg Serengeti Tent's come with a multi layer roofing system, which includes the 80% shade fly, and pvc rain fly. The canvas fly sheet's included with the Budget option are water proof.

4) The diameter of the steel framing is thinner on the Budget Serengeti tents, and the GSM rating of the canvas is of a lower grade than the standard 550 for all other designs.

Choosing the best option is difficult. It depends on the overall vision of your project, time lines, and budget. Hopefully this will help you in choosing the best design to suit the overall glamping experience you are trying to create.

Hey All,

As another week has passed and this year seems to be entering the final quarter very quickly, we are glad to say that the big move to Belize is over and done with and we hope the good fortune continues to prove strong for everyone throughout the end of the year.

We are going to dive a little deeper this week into the nitty griddy process of creating your own luxury tent, making it a bit easier to conceptualize your dream eco retreat.

Whether your interested in creating a full scale 5 star eco friendly glamping resort or simply putting a small guest house on your property for your friends and family, there are plenty of options and choices that need to be well thought out in addition to choosing the best tent design and location for your project. One of the biggest decisions you must make are what infrastructures (bathrooms, plumbing, electrical, heating/cooling etc.) you wish to have with-in your tent or resort.
One of the questions that we get asked quite often, is how to add a bathroom to our tents. All the tents are an open layout, meaning you are able to designate any part of the tent as a bathroom. The reason for this is to enable each and every tent to be completely customizable. The Serengeti Tent's are the only Exclusive Tents design that come with an additional 2m bathroom space attached to the back side of the tent as an extra option. Since we don't actually deal directly with infrastructure (all infrastructures are to be obtained by local contractors on site) we normally offer suggestions and recommendations based upon what past clients have done with there tents. We have had past clients who's bathrooms and infrastructure are of the same caliber as 5 star resorts, and on the flip side we have had other clients that have used much more eco friendly systems, such as rain water catching, water recycling ect. We also have some clients who have an entire separate structure next to the tents or simply build an outdoor shower on the back side of the unit for some more of the secluded locations. So virtually anything is possible just depends on your personal preferences and what you envision for your tents.

Don't forget to check out our web site www.exclusivetents.com to see some of the amazing resorts that we have been apart of and visit our 'tents' section to help you in choosing the best design for your project.

Happy Friday

How do Exclusive Tents handle snow fall and higher wind conditions?

All of our tents are fabricated to order, to best satisfy our clients' desires. Exclusive Tents are provides the highest quality of materials, and can be customized to handle any type of environment.

The majority of our tent designs and frames can generally withstand wind gusts around 50-60 mph. If you are wanting to leave your tents standing in higher wind conditions exceeding 60mph it is recommended to have a wind bracing kit. A wind bracing kit can be purchased through Exclusive Tents, or we can give a detailed list of materials for you to pick up at local hardware stores. Currently we have client's who also prefer to leave their tents up during high wind condition's and with proper wind bracing their tents have withstood seasonal wind gusts up to 99mph. Installing vertical wood poles will also increase the tents strength, and will also make it more aesthetically appealing.

However, in an event in which you are concerned it is always best to take down the tents. This can be done with in a matter of hours as long as you have the appropriate amount of labor on hand. You could even leave the tent frame up in the event of an extreme emergency and just take down the tent body.

As for snow fall, moderate snow loads are not a problem for Exclusive Tents. If you are receiving anywhere between 1-4 feet during a snow season, that is not a problem for Exclusive Tents. The tents are designed with steep pitched roofs to allow the snow the shed easily. For more of an extreme pitch, we are able to extend the roof frame. You would also want to consider a vertical wood pole in the apex of the structure to add strength to the tent.

That should give you a better idea of how Exclusive Tents has been designed with the natural wonders of the world taken into consideration. No matter where your imagination may take you living under canvas is a completely different experience than anything you’ve known and your limitations are only as far as you're willing to go.

We hope that everyone is looking forward to a relaxing weekend ahead!

Where's Paul?

"A citizen of the world" as some may call him, Paul with in the past few months has traveled to many different places around the globe. Don't be fooled as it is a lot more difficult to track his footprints at times than it may seem.

With in the past 2 weeks Paul and Anders have traveled to Belmopan, Belize and back. While there they worked hard cutting and bulldozing down the new road through the thick jungle getting it ready for the move to Paul and Angelika's property which they will very soon be calling home.

A couple pics included for you below of the property as the road is being built.

Where is he now?

As of the past few days Paul and Angelika have finally started the long awaited one way trip to Belize. They will be driving for about 5 days strait from the desert's of Arizona to Texas, then onward through the heart of Mexico, all the way to the jungles of Belize. Not only do they have to drive for hours on end and will undoubtedly be vey sleep deprived, they also have to share the jeep for this long ride with 3 larger than normal puppies! All the struggles aside, they should be arriving in Belize ready to unload towards the end of the weekend and will begin the long process of settling in and becoming acquainted with the country and land they will soon make home. As for now they found a very basic yet stunning mennonite's home close by, and will be settling in there for a few months as they construct the 5000 sq. ft wooden platform for their future "tent home" on their property. This will defiantly take Exclusive Tents souring into the next chapter and we are very excited to see the good times that are ahead.

Cheers!
